On August 3rd, Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that almost all current restrictions in relation to Covid 19 in Scotland are to be lifted from August 9th, 2021.
What great news to hear after we have all put in such great effort to keep our loved ones and ourselves as safe as possible.
While the changes will bring us nearer to a certain amount of “normality”, the staff and management of the Charing Cross Hotel will ALWAYS make sure that our guest’s health and safety is a priority, and will continue to maintain certain policies in place to make your stay with us as safe and enjoyable as possible.
So, now that you have decided to visit Glasgow for a short or long stay, it is going to be all about rediscovering our fantastic city!
Let’s look at our top 3 favourite things to do in Glasgow in 2021
1) SIR CHARLES RENNIE MACKINTOSH AT THE HUNTERIAN ART GALLERY
There is hardly a Glaswegian Architect better known in history than Sir Charles Rennie Mackintosh. In 1807, The Hunterian Gallery and Museum was the first in Britain with a gallery of paintings, and today it is most famous for its Whistler and Mackintosh collections. Its outdoor sculpture courtyard also features a small display of modern works by British artists and the largest single holding of the work of Sir Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Mackintosh House. Located on Hillhead Street, we strongly recommend a visit to see an abundance of fabulous art to enjoy and ponder!
2) GLASGOW BOTANICAL GARDENS
What a beautiful time of year to visit the Botanical Gardens. Often overlooked, it is one of the most glorious places to visit packed with history, architecture and of course botany and green space. The grounds are open from 7am until dusk just now, so whether you are morning lark or night owl, there is a great time to visit.
3) THE FINNIESTON CRANE & THE CLYDE
Who would have thought that a shipbuilding crane would now be considered a visitor attraction?
The Finnieston Crane is one of just four remaining cranes on the Clyde and pays homage to a time when Glasgow’s shipyards represented the city as one of the most important cities in the world. Standing at 53 metres high, it can be best enjoyed along a fairly short walk from Glasgow Green east of the city upriver to Govan.
Of course, there are endless possibilities and ways to enjoy Glasgow, and our location here at the Charing Cross Hotel is second to none, so get booking direct to get the best late summer and autumn deals in 2021.
