Family Breaks in Glasgow
Public Parks & Gardens in Glasgow
Glasgow is fortunate to have many parks and gardens that
provide a tranquil setting among the hustle and bustle of city
life. These range in character from the Botanic Gardens with
its formal glasshouses and flowerbeds to the "wilder"
Pollok Country Park, home to the famous Burrell Collection

Bellahouston Park, on Glasgow's south side, contains a large area
of parkland, a dry ski slope, House for an Art Lover designed by the
famous architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Palace of Art,
now a centre for sporting excellence.
The Botanic Gardens, situated in the west end not far from Glasgow
University, is a popular park for those wishing to relax or visit
the gardens. Kelvingrove Park, the largest park in the west end offers
a recreation area in a busy part of the city. Part of a fine piece
of urban landscaping, it includes the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. A newly
opened skate park is also very popular, especially at weekends.
Glasgow Green is Glasgow's oldest park and its history can be traced
back as far as 1450. Within the grounds of Glasgow Green is the Peoples
Palace and Winter Gardens, the former a museum dedicated to the life
and times of Glasgow and its people; the latter an elegant Victorian
glasshouse where you can relax among the tropical plants and enjoy
the café.
Rouken Glen park on the city's south side boasts a boating pond, Highland
cattle, pitch and putt, gardens, a garden centre, a Chinese restaurant
and some beautiful glen walks past spectacular waterfalls.
