About Glasgow .. Something for everyone
The Stand Comedy Club
Inaugurated in 2000, The Stand Comedy Club in Woodlands Road is Glasgow’s
first purpose-built comedy club offering regular customers and first-time
audiences a fantastic bill of international and Scottish comedians
with excellent value tickets from as little as three pounds. Housed
in the basement of a former Victorian secondary school in the city’s
vibrant West End, the stand comedy club is easily accessible on foot
from the Charing Cross Guest House, approximately 10 minutes away.
Comedy lovers can catch live stand-up performances at The Stand Comedy
Club 7 nights a week and on average, this independent comedy club
sells a staggering 1400 tickets every week between both the Glasgow
and Edinburgh clubs, demonstrating the club’s popularity and
significant role it plays in the Scottish comedy circuit.
Some of the best regular acts to appear at the Stand Comedy Club
are home-grown comics such as Vladimir McTavish, famed for his ingeniously
delivered social satire and topical comedy combined with irreverent,
razor sharp wit. Local comic, Ian McFarlane is certainly worth catching
a performance and has been a regular to the Stand since it opened
in Glasgow in 2000. Alternatively, if you are seeking some of the
city’s emerging talents, the Stand provides the perfect opportunity
to catch such performances with Susan Calman being the latest act
to appear at the venue in recent times.
The Stand is not only presents existing Scottish talent to the
Glasgow circuit; it also incorporates a host of comedy shows in
its eclectic programme of stand-up including ‘The Best of
Scottish’, ‘The Best of Irish’ and ‘Red
Raw’ to name but a few. Some shows are programmed as part
of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, presenting a string
of household names and acts familiar to many.
‘Red Raw’ is scheduled every Tuesday evening at the
Glasgow Stand Comedy Club, presenting a host of sets from absolute
beginners brave enough to face the audience. This weekly showcase
provides a platform for budding talents and can be the making or
breaking of many. Tickets for the ‘Red Raw’ show are
reasonably priced at £2 and an experienced compere and headlining
act is present to ensure that your evening gets off to a good start.
Offering an alternative option from the city's pub and club scene,
The Stand plays host to a multitude of first-class stand-up comics
in an intimate and informal setting where audiences have the opportunity
to get up close and interact with the tongue and cheek wit of both
local, national and international comedians. Since its inception
in 2000, the Stand has rapidly established itself as one of the
city's favourite hotspots for live, cutting-edge entertainment.
